Prepare yourself first.  Just KNOW there’s going to be decadent food.  Drink plenty of water and avoid an empty stomach.  Counterintuitive?  Would you rather devour a platter of cookies?

When you arrive, take a few moments to admire the spread.  A lot of work goes into holiday food, so it deserves the pause of gratitude.

Fill your little cocktail plate with plenty of protein, which releases your satiety neurotransmitters.  Unlike carbohydrates, which is why we overeat unless accompanied with protein.

Acknowledge that the array of carefully-prepared desserts is Art.  It’s beauty for the eye, not nourishment for the body.  So, clasp your hands behind your well-dressed back and tour the gallery.   Admire the colors, shapes, and designs.  Breathe in the delicious smells.  Truthfully compliment the artist.

If you have the willpower, step away.  You’ve given it justice.  If you can’t stop thinking about that cookie, for heaven’s sake get one.  Give it a blessing, and eat it slowly, happily, and guilt-free.

Now you can enjoy the party.  Remember why you’re there anyway.  It’s all about celebration~food, friendship, family, love.
